Mike's Town Spotlight: Hyde Park

The town of Hyde Park is located in north Lamoille County, just above the town of Morrisville. Hyde Park has a quaint little New England village and the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail goes straight through the village itself. Great for biking, hiking, and dog walks, this new feature goes from as far north as St. Albans all the way to Hardwick, winding through the town of Hyde Park and creating ample recreational opportunities for its residents and visitors. The whole town boasts incredible views of places like Mount Mansfield, Green River Reservoir, and beyond.

Hyde Park is also home to the Hyde Park Opera House, home to the Lamoille County Players and the troupe's creative, exciting, and artistic performances.

In terms of recreation, Hyde Park has lots to offer. It is home to the Green River Reservoir, which is a beautiful place for all kinds of water sports, especially canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. Green River is part of the Vermont State Parks network, who manage a number of high-demand campsites around the reservoir. This is one of the first State Parks to book up when reservations open every year because of the natural beauty and recreation opportunities.

Some of these campsites are “remote sites,” accessible only by boat! I highly recommend visiting in the spring or summer.

I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about beer at least once during this article! Hyde Park, like all of the surrounding towns, has a great brewery, Ten Bends, just north of Morrisville. Ten Bends has a variety of beers, but they specialize in IPAs. One of my favorites is Rotary Chaos… it’s probably one of the best beers that you’ll find in the Ten Bends collection. You can decide for yourself in their tasting room, a great place to spend an afternoon with friends.

Hyde Park is a destination for many people visiting Lamoille county… and a great place to live.
